I have trapped Coyotes for 50 years now,and in that time I have learned what it takes to catch in numbers. Believe you me if you choose cheap gear, you will no doubt pay many times over, rather than buying good equipment. The top of the line traps cost more indeed, however cheap traps cause lots of foot damage and you pay in the end!!

Try This~When you buy traps that cost more say $300 per dozen, trap for Bobcats in order to pay traps off quick.Buy traps that are already have modifications on them.Believe you me,once you modify the traps you have, you will never re~sale them for the cost plus the work involved in them.If you don't have Bobcat, then trap fox or coyote and just stay busy.

The Best thing I can tell you is once you have your sets in,don't mess with them any more, let them do the job they were intended for.The Trapper that messes with his sets every time he checks will NOT catch many animals.Coyotes travel a lot of ground and sometimes it may take a few days before making their rounds again.I also highly advise against Calling and shooting in the same areas.Do your calling a ways from where you trap for them, that way the coyotes stay settled.Decide TRAP or call and choose one of the other!

Making Double catches on coyotes is not hard at all.Coyotes pair up late winter and travel a lot together.Matter fact a lot of your doubles will be Male & Female.Very seldom will you ever catch two males or two females. The way to do it is,when you get out of the truck, plan every time to set two sets opposite from each other. This does two things,it helps cover the area and guard it from passing animals and covers you better on the wind,in case one set fail, the other will pick up the animal.

Naturally Trap Needs Covering & Blending
Blend Left & Right Good~Not Just Over Set!Bed Trap Solid!

Urine Post With Trap Back 10
Inches & Offset 3 to Right Of Center~Bobcat & Urine Both Used!

I choose not to use dirt hole sets quite frankly,I mostly use Urine Post Sets & Flat Sets as thats the bulk of my sets!Ask any Trapper and they use Dirt Hole Sets~Not Me!
This set is very hard for a coyote to pass up,especially with Bobcat Droppings and Cat urine as well applied to it.I also use Bobcat gland,Red Fox gland,Grey Fox gland and lots of Bobcat Call lure made by JC Connors.I go thru at least 2 gallons of Urine each season.

Fellows this is it,if you think there is more, there really isn't,for ages trappers have tried to make the coyote to be magical or something. He can be caught very successful using this one set above. If you want to use dirt holes thats fine, but the biggest reason I don't is because everyone is using them.Use Leather Gloves as well ,cotton asorbs odors bad, leather smell will not scare coyotes or animals, use them only for setting traps.

MB~650 Doing a Great Job!

Click On Swivel To Purchase Them

Fellows,I can't begin to even tell you how important Swivels are on a Long Trap Chain!! On a short Trap chain they don't save the foot ,naimly because the Coyotes fight the short chain so bad!

Get that 5 foot of chain on with three swivels & you will be in great shape! That Coyote needs to be able to roll, twist and move and the trap move with him & not bind, otherwise foot damage is a Fact!

I WILL Not get out of my Truck and Make just one Coyote Set.First off there are to many chances that there are two coyotes traveling, wheather it be young or older,so therefore make two Sets

Secondly, you cannot hit the WIND right to make sure the Coyote will Smell or spot Your Set.They do hunt with their EYES to,but we want him to Smell the stuff we have to offer him.If your Wind Changes, and YOU only have ONE SET,You MISS the animal completely, and therefore keep having a delayed catch.Make it Habit,to MAKE a Bare Minimum of 2 Sets and Three will further your chance for a better oppertunity for not only DOUBLE catches but at least have ONE sets that Made for Wind Change out of the Three!!

Leg Damage On Traps
Leg Damage that has been preached about for ages is simple,a Coyote for instance will fight a SMALL trap harder than he will a bigger trap, simply because the weight of the bigger one tires him out.

Now take the weight of the trap plus the chain and you have a wore out Coyote. That's a simple easy deduction. When I go to work for a landowner or ranch, generally they want to see my traps and gear! Now in Texas you show them a cheap ,shear jaw trap, and they will run you off and tell you in very descriptive words. We will discuss this in depth on Page #2 more!!Better have the best of gear trapping TEXAS.
